Week 08/2024 Melancholy

... and here is my top topic for the 8th week of 2024 artistically implemented. New every Sunday.

Students who “run amok” or kill themselves - such news is increasing (at least subjectively felt). There was another case last week in Wuppertal, about 50km away from me, where a possibly mentally ill student stabbed his classmates with a knife.

Such events tear me out of my “idyll” and show me how cruel and incomprehensible reality can be. This always makes me extremely sad. Hence the choice of motif and title:

What is actually beautiful (subject and surroundings appear soft due to a slight blur, suggested sunset in the background, beach landscape) is destroyed by the hard foreground (black, sharp, vertical lines). The protagonist sits in a puddle that resembles blood.
